Internet Radio S-1000:

Internet Radio S-1000:
The Brick O’Lore website published a nice article on a small portable AM radio, probably from the late sixties.
On reflection, the actual article written by By Mark Hill of Mark’s Blog site.
It is a typical small radio from the 60s, which is easy to hold in hand and with between 5 to 7 transistors and only the AM band.
The brand name of the radio is somewhat comical to the late 60s, Internet – All Transistor Radio Model S-1000.

Mark, who is a specialist in Collectables and worked among others for Bonhams and Sotheby’s in London, the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow and wrote books about antiques, told in his blog how he got on the radio.

Quote: Passing through Amsterdam just before Christmas, the Banker and I stopped by Roerende-Zaken in the famous ’9 Streets’. As we were just about to leave (unusually) empty-handed, we spotted this portable transistor radio in a cabinet. It wasn’t the radio itself that stopped us in our tracks, but the name – Internet.”

After reading Mark’s article on his blog, I came up with the idea to write about a similar radio as that of Mark.
It is a small AM radio that I bought in 1971 near the U.S. city of Cincinnati.

Sunoco radio:

Sunoco radio:
From September 1971 until the end of May 1972 I was with a puppet theater on tour in the Midwest of the United States.
By the end of 1971 we were near the big city of Cincinnati.
I remember that we arrived late in the evening, just above the town.
The city of Cincinnati is located in a valley, and from above the hills it is a wonderful sight to see all the city lights glowing in the dark
Somewhere in this area we had to refuel the car and we did that at a Sunoco gas station.
At the gas station I saw the Sunoco radio that mainly bought as a souvenir.
But soon I noticed that the radio worked well and so the radio came into use to listen to AM radio stations.
Nowadays the radio still works fine, as long as there are still a number of AM radio stations on the air, the AM radio stations are likely to disappear in a few years.

The Sunoco radio has model number 668 and is made for Sunoco in the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong.
